The sight of a single coffin during a funeral service is hard enough. Debbie Mountjoy and her family experienced the pain of three loved ones laid side-by-side in caskets. Her mum Gladys and two brothers Dean and Darren died less than a week apart after contracting COVID-19 in South Wales towards the end of last year. COVID-19: Boris Johnson 'deeply sorry' as over 100,000 coronavirus-related deaths recorded in UK

 

Boris Johnson has told the country he is "deeply sorry for every life that has been lost" as the UK surpassed 100,000 coronavirus-related deaths. A further 1,631 people were reported to have died within 28 days of testing positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 100,162. COVID-19: Virus will be 'with us forever, but controlled', admits government adviser

 

UK government chief scientific adviser Patrick Vallance has admitted the world will be living with coronavirus - probably forever. Speaking at the daily Downing Street news briefing on Friday, he said: "I don't think this virus is going anywhere." COVID-19: 6,500 prosecutions against COVID rule-breakers in first six months of pandemic

 

Almost 6,500 coronavirus-related offences were prosecuted in the first six months of the pandemic - the majority of which were assaults on emergency workers, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has said. Many of these involved police officers being coughed on and spat at - with others kicked, bitten and hit with heavy objects - after stopping suspected COVID rule-breakers, CPS data shows. There were also more than 1,100 prosecutions under the coronavirus legislation forbidding unnecessary travel and unlawful gatherings. Cases included a man caught travelling between counties in Wales to solicit the services of a sex worker, and a man in Manchester who was caught having a house party with 15 people who he tried to claim were part of his support bubble. COVID-19 vaccine: Record daily number of jabs given, as new UK death figures revealed

 

Almost five million people have been given a first dose of a COVID vaccine, as the UK recorded another 1,290 deaths and 37,892 cases, figures show. A total of 363,508 first coronavirus vaccinations were administered yesterday, the highest daily figure to date. As many as 4,973,248 first doses have now been given and 464,036 second doses, an increase of 3,411 on figures released the previous day. Arnold Schwarzenegger has had his first dose of coronavirus vaccine - and celebrated the moment by slipping in two lines from his film career. The 73-year-old posted a Twitter video of himself getting a shot in his right bicep at the drive-through site at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. "Today was a good day," he wrote. COVID-19: Ice cream tests positive for coronavirus in China

 

Ice cream has been found to have been contaminated with COVID-19 in China after three samples tested positive for the virus. Anti-epidemic authorities in north China's Tianjin Municipality are tracing people who may have been in contact with the batches, which were produced by Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Company. All of the products produced by the firm have been sealed and contained after the samples it sent to the municipal centre for disease control this week tested positive for coronavirus. COVID-19: R number 'below one' in parts of England, study suggests

 

The R number for the coronavirus in England is below one in some areas, according to research from the University of Cambridge. It suggests the reproductive rate is falling as a whole across the country "but with a high degree of regional variation". It comes amid a warning that infection numbers remain "still worryingly high and hospitals will stay under pressure for some time yet".
